The Jena Band of Choctaw Indians Transportation Department was established to construct and maintain safe travel ways and facilities throughout our Tribal lands.

Through funding received from the BIA and Tribal dollars, we can hire contractors and engineers to design and construct our roads. We follow all Louisiana Department of Transportation and Federal Highways Administration standards to meet any safety guidelines required.

With a limited amount of funding, we are forced to let our funding accumulate to be able to fund construction. During these periods of non-construction, we focus on the maintenance of our roads. We utilize the Tribes’ Maintenance Department for general upkeep of the right-of-ways and hire contractors when needed. During this time we also concentrate on our planning and budgeting efforts with the Tribal Council.

Our goal in the Transportation Department is to help the Tribe grow by providing the infrastructure needed for travel on all our Tribal lands.
